'MIDI: Synthesis and Sequencing' is an introductory course exploring the MIDI protocol and its application in modern music production. Guided by expert Damon Fonooni, students will engage in lectures and hands-on projects, learning the intricacies of MIDI, synthesis, and sequencing in a DAW environment.

Damon Fonooni brings his vast experience as a composer, producer, and audio engineer to this course. With a discography of over 60 releases and remixes, and extensive work in sound design, Damon's expertise offers invaluable insights into the world of electronic music production.

Course Objectives:

  • Understand and utilize various MIDI messages and control surfaces.
  • Create and manipulate MIDI performances within a sequencing environment.
  • Apply synthesis principles using virtual synthesizers and sample-based instruments.
  • Develop proficiency in effects processing, automation, and composing within Ableton Live.

Required Materials:

  • Computer with webcam and high-speed internet connection.
  • Headphones/Speakers.
  • Ableton Live 11 Suite Software.
  • MIDI Controller (recommended).

Course Format:
This 11-week course features quizzes, Ableton project submissions with instructor feedback, and culminates in a final project and exam.
